Bono pt. 2, the "Imelda Marcos of sunglasses"

Right. How the fuck does Bono know? What if God is totally in to wearing Armani shades and looking all cool and mysterious. He does work in mysterious ways and everybody knows that there is nothing more mysterious than wearing a pare of dark sunglasses all the time. This is asuming God exists (which he doesn't -in your face!). Bono wears his stupid sunglasses all over the place. Why? because he's got...

"Very sensitive eyes to light. If somebody takes my photograph, I will see the flash for the rest of the day. My right eye swells up. I've a blockage there, so that my eyes go red a lot. So it's part vanity, it's part privacy and part sensitivity."

It's part of him being a total ding-dong if you ask me.

This other guy on the internet posted this wisdom. Is it true? Is this why I hate bright light?:

"Most Irish people wear sunglasses when they are abroad, Irish have very little melalin in our eyes so we can't stand bright lights. I always wear sunglasses in the summer and so do loads of people in Dublin and Its not even half as sunny as it would be in america. sensitive skin too. all races have their eccentric little perks, with the Irish its sunglasses." Huh, I like sunglasses, and in full disclosure I do (unapologeticlly) own a pair of RayBans, because I can't deal with sqinting all the time and getting a headache from it. BUT, I don't wear them when I'm out at night, or meeting forien dignataries, or waving my big white flag live at Red Rocks with my magnificent mullet.

Also of interest, I learned in a Spin magazine today that Duff McKagen, formerly of Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver, currently of Duff McKagen's Loaded, likes U2 a bunch:

He says, "The Joshua Tree was the soundtrack of my life when we were making Appetite...I listened to The Joshua Tree probably ten times a day. That was the record, man. Still is, like, a top ten record -- top five, maybe."

UNACCEPTABLE.

Also of interest, Duff mentioned: "Axl's favorite record in 1987 was Faith, by George Michael. [Rhythm guitarist] Izzy [Stradlin] was into reggae. Actually, when we were recording Appetite, Izzy would play over and over and over the Georgia Satellites. It was like, "Dude, enough."

Whatever, Duff.

I heard the new U2 single in the car today and it was less than bad. They should stick to doing whatever it is they do when they're not making those terrible sounds instead.

A few years ago I spent several days on one of the Aran Islands located in Galway bay on the west coast of Ireland. Of the three islands I went to Inisheer, which is the smallest and least populated. There I slept on the beach, explored the island, looking at sheep, castles, and shipwrecks. At night I went to the island's pub and met these Irish guys who were having a bachelor party. They bought me Guinness and we all got good and drunk, and began signing traditional Irish songs. One guy pulled out a guitar and started playing U2 songs, and everybody sang along with those too. So, yes, the Irish love U2, but, no, I do not.

So that was weird, but later that night, we all went to a disco/techno/rave that was being thrown at the local school gymnasium, which was even weirder.
